Ako Azimi

I completed my BSc in medical laboratory sciences from Tabriz University of Medical Sciences, Iran, where I developed a keen interest in the diagnostic aspects of pathophysiology. This interest led me to pursue an MSc program in fundamental research in hematology at the same university. Through my MSc program, I delved into the immunopathogenesis of leukemia, sparking my passion for discovery and research. My academic journey continued with a faculty position at Maragheh University of Medical Sciences, Iran, from 2016 to 2020, where I taught and conducted research in leukemia and solid tumors, such as liver cancer. Despite my fulfilling role, I aspired to further my expertise and scientific training in immunology, specifically in the field of immune-oncology.

I chose to pursue doctoral study at the University of Alberta, Canada, due to its multicultural environment and strong research community. Under the guidance of Dr. Elahi, whose lab specializes in erythroid progenitors and cancer immunotherapy, I am focusing on the role of erythroid progenitors in breast cancer progression.
